I am in the Touring Choir, and at a recent practice Dr. Browne, the director, commented on something that made me think. Like any other choir, we have issues with watching the director. The habit of burying our heads in the music is a tough one to break. Yet, there are so many things that can only be accomplished if we watch Dr. Browne and the cues he gives us through his conducting.
Dr. Browne told us he needed to know whether or not we were going to watch him. If we were, his motions could be much more subtle (which he prefers) and there would be almost no limit to the amount of musical inflections he could show. If we were not going to watch, these subtle movements would not even be seen, and his motions would need to be much larger in order to get any response.
This simple idea from a choir rehearsal is actually very closely related to our relationship with God If we keep our eyes fixed on Him, He can show us so much more and guide even the small, subtle parts of our lives. If we become absorbed in our lives and in ourselves and do not focus on Him, we will miss all the intricate facets of God’s character, and He is forced to use much more drastic measures in order to get through to us and get our eyes back on Him.
Thoughts like these have been coming to me recently. I have become amazed by how often God will speak to you in ordinary day-to-day situations if you only open your minds to His whispering voice.
amen, brother. Amazing connection you had and filled with truth. You are very right, I wish I’d open my eyes more..
